I’m laying in my labor rest position, feeling thankful. After all, it’s LABOR DAY!
While many, in their rest position, are thinking of the backyard dining set up, or the barbeque sauce to add to the prepped marinated meat kind, or the event they’ve been invited to, or they’re feeling excited about reconnecting with friends and family, or planning the last hurrah before the start of fall, I decided to take Labor Day literally, and free my mind of all things toxic.
Don’t even go there! Labor day isn’t a day to labor, but on the contrary; it’s a day to rest.
Today, Americans recognize the American labor movement and the works and contributions of laborers to the development and achievements of the United States. To celebrate the laborers’ hard work, the holiday was born. And government workers, as myself, can appreciate that!
As I try to bask in the gift of rest, I realized that I had way too much on my mind. Therefore, I made a conscious decision to give Jesus my burdens and experience deeper rest. Yep, I thought of you too. I know you have circumstances that burden you, so I wanted to invite you on this quest of labor rest.
It’s going to take a full surrender of mind, heart, and will. It’s going to take letting go of anger, fear, anxious thoughts, resentment, bitterness, and the list goes on. That’s just too much burden to carry around.
Jesus extends an invitation to us in Matthew chapter eleven. He says;
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest”.
I have accepted His invitation many many times before today, but sometimes “self” causes me to pick up certain heavy burdens. As I ponder on His invitation today, it hit me, “Melody, Jesus is simply offering Himself as the universal solution to all these burdens”. So, instead of thinking about solutions today, I’m just going to do as He says; lay it all on Him. He is saying to us, “believe in who I claim to be and therefore what I am able to do for you.” Yep, that’s really it. I have turned it over to my labor union representative. 😁😁😊.
In showing recognition and appreciation of my birth, a student of mine gave me the most precious gift on Friday, September 1st, my birthday. Of all the well wishes and gifts received on that day, hers was most impactful(Thanks Amber). It was a framed art beautifully displaying one of my favorite bible verses.
Her gift, positioned at the perfect spot on the wall in my home, will henceforth remind me of my Labor Day rest- “whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” – Philippians 4:8
And that’s what’s on my grill today.
Join the union! Let Jesus bear your burdens and give you REST on LABOR DAY.
I wasn’t in the mood to do anything today but you got me going .I’m going to get my grill ready , I have some vegetables to grill , patience, self control, kindness… Thank you and belated happy birthday 🎊🎂🎁.

Guess who is coming for dinner?? I like what is on your grill so count me in for dinner.Daniel mentioned about how Jesus is calling, I am willing to give it all to Jesus. The burdens are heavy. Jesus, I am week but Thou art strong. Jesus keep me from all wrong. I’ll be satisfied as long as I walk close to Thee.Oh when my feeble life is O’er time for me will be no more, guide me gently safely to thy Kingdom Shore blessed Lord. These☝️are words from one of my favorite songs.
🎶Just a closer walk with Thee,
Grant it, Jesus, is my plea,
Daily walking close to Thee,
Let it be, dear Lord, let it be.🎶
Psalm 127 : 1 , 2 says except the Lord build the house they labor in vain that build it .
So this tells me it’s nothing in my own strength that I can do .
The work is there to do Philippians 4: 13 says I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me so this tells me I have to be co-laborer with Christ.
God being my helper 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
How privileged we are to be called co-laborers for Him. May we take His yoke and learn how to be effective in our calling.
