Love comes in many forms. But when I came across the following example of love shown in the most unconventional way, it caused me to wonder how many opportunities I may have missed. The story goes like this…

“A brother forgot to put his phone on silent, and it rang loudly in church during preaching. The Pastor scolded him.The worshippers admonished him after the sermon for interrupting. His wife kept on lecturing on his carelessness all the way home. His departmental colleague workers shook their heads in disgust. You could see the shame, embarrassment and humiliation on his face.

He never stepped foot in the church again after the service that Sunday. That evening, he went to a bar. He was still nervous and trembling. He spilled his drink on the table, the bottle fell by accident and it splashed on some people. Those it touched rushed towards him. He closed his eyes expecting a bashing of words or slaps. Instead, they cared to know if he did get a cut from the broken bottle. The waiter apologized and gave him a napkin to clean himself. The janitor mopped the floor. The female manager offered him a complimentary drink. She also gave him a huge hug and a peck while saying, “Don’t worry man. Who doesn’t make mistakes?” He has not stopped going to that bar since then.”

I may not agree with the outcome and could argue that one needs to live for Christ, not others, or that his spiritual walk may have been weak. However, I must not fail to notice the lessons therein.

Lesson #1– Sometimes our attitude as believers drives “souls” away from Jesus.

Lesson #2: We can make a difference by how we treat people, especially when they make mistakes.

Lesson #3: If you cannot be a bridge to connect people, then do not be a wall to separate them.

Lesson #5: If you cannot be a light to brighten people’s good deeds, then do not be darkness covering their efforts.

Lesson #6: If you cannot be water to help people’s crops sprout, then do not be a pest destroying their crops.

Lesson #7: If you cannot be a vaccine to give life, do not be a virus to terminate it.

Lesson #8: If you cannot be a pencil to write anyone’s happiness, then try to be a nice eraser to remove their sadness.

Lesson #9: Your turn – What lesson(s) did you glean from this?

Remarkable lessons, wouldn’t you agree?

Let’s not forget that people are struggling to get it right, just as we are.

If you must rebuke, correct, and lead- do so in love. I often think about one of my favorite tag lines; W-W-J-D (What-Would-Jesus-Do).

Handle mistakes with Love. Whenever you are not sure how to react, then ask yourself- WWJD?

After all, it is easier to a lose soul than to win one.

  1. Well said my Sister. There are so many people crippled by church folks. The thing is that there are a lot of people in the church who are well meaning and misleading; however the church is the best place for us to be. It’s best to be on the inside of the Ark than to be on the outside. My thing is instead of preying on people, let us start praying for them.

  2. L-is for let

We must always bear in mind that LOVE cover’s all in our own strength we cannot do it but we can do all things through Christ which strengthens us
