KABOOM!
I could hardly close my eyes last night because of the constant blasts of fireworks. Yesterday, America celebrated its independence. A few days prior, Canada had their fair share of parades, barbecues, concerts, carnivals, and picnics. A few more weeks, the land of my birth will join in the celebration. Tis a joyous occasion to celebrate your country’s release from the control of colonialism, territories, and provinces. Wouldn’t you say?
But, of all the Independence Days, my favorite is TODAY. Haha, you’re probably thinking about today’s date, but you’d be wrong, because today’s date will eventually become yesterday, last week, last month, and last year. As long as I have breath, then every today is my Independence Day. Daily I declare independence from the grasp of the enemy. Daily, I have to recommit my life to God. Daily, I seek spiritual independence. Daily I claim freedom from sin. And with that, I am totally independent of Satan’s hold on my life. KABOOM! Today is my independence.
It was the hunger for freedom that propelled many countries to seek independence from others. So too, many of us hunger for spiritual freedom. Isn’t it amazing to know that freedom came when the ultimate flag of victory was hoisted on a hill called Calvary thousands of years ago? Can I get a KABOOM?
All heavens saluted the red, white and blue; as water and blood gushed from His side, His body was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed. Because of this, all of us can be spiritually free, in Christ. “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” Galatians 5: 1
Just as our nation’s Founding Fathers were willing to pay any price for their political independence, so too was God willing to pay the ultimate price to give us Freedom. KABOOM!
Every day is the Christian’s Independence Day. After all, it is in God we trust.
And that, my dear readers, is the ultimate firework…
KABOOM!
