I have invited Jesus to come into my place of abode and make Himself at home. But the thing is, I don’t want Him to stay in the fancy living room, where the most beautiful portrait of my family hangs, nor do I want him to sit in my comfortable sofa and watch 3ABN television. Even if that’s what I wanted, I don’t think Jesus is the type of visitor to sit.
I wouldn’t mind if He made His way to my closet. Of course you know I’m not talking about the actual closet. I know all too well that the omniscient God knows everything.
Recently, I read a chapter in one of my favorite books, and it has me thinking…”Melody forget about the living room, bedroom, and closet. What if Jesus were to visit your kitchen?”
I know what you’re thinking -Why would Jesus visit one’s kitchen? Why not?
1 Corinthians 10:31 says therefore whatever you eat or drink, whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
I will admit that the battle over appetite has been a long and difficult one. We’re in a season of celebration and family togetherness. There are some foods that always find themselves at the gathering. Even if I tried not to see them, they have always gone out of their way to make their presence known; all in an effort to temp this want to be vegetarian. When highly flavored curried goat, mannish water, oxtails, fried chicken, black or rum cake saturate the atmosphere with their aroma, the battle over appetite becomes too surreal. I’m not saying these foods are abominable, but that I have decided to abstain for longevity and obedience to the laws of health.
But whether this is your struggle or not, we all can agree that we desperately need the Holy Spirit to change our appetites, not just for the foods we put on our plates, but for the foods we put in our mind.
What do you feast your thoughts on? What do you consume for entertainment? It’s not something we’d regularly think about. But let’s assume I have your attention for a few minutes; can you truly say that your mind has been feasting on things pure, clean, nutritious, and healthy?
Because of our society today, and the way we were brought up, we instinctively and naturally crave things that not only pollute, but destroy the mind. Our thoughts feed on three major toxins; money, sex, and power.
I have decided to ensure that Jesus is not just a visitor, but a permanent resident in this space. One way to do this is ensuring that I regularly visit the Bible café and find edibles that are true, pure, and right (Philippians 4:8). With the help of the Holy Spirit, I want my reading, thinking, watching, talking, and hearing to feed on delectable and heavenly bites of purity, beauty, and godliness.
What about you reader? What happens in the privacy of your mind? What thoughts and motives prompt your actions? What things do you think about but never dare to say?
Each day Jesus is asking for the keys to our minds and hearts, the keys to our homes, and the keys to every area of our lives. What we give pales in comparison to what He wants us to receive.
Merry Melodious Melody
Not only what we give pales in comparison to what we receive,we can’t even match it.God is always giving always knocking cause he wants to come in to our hearts be a part of our lives,if we allow him in,this season would take on a whole new meaning.
Blessings.
Amen…then it would be a jolly jolly season.
The apostle Paul admonishes us in Phil 2 : 5 to let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus but at times we take these words for granted telling ourselves we are not God it’s hard to do but nothing is impossible with God.
Luke 1 : 37 says I can do all things through Christ which strengthens us so let us dwell more so on .
Luke 1 : 37 not in our strength but by God’s help we can overcome. May God help us to be over comers so we can inherit eternal life and enjoy all what he has in store for us
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Yes Sis Williams. We often use the excuse of things being hard when we try to do it in our own strength. But as you said, nothing is impossible with God. He is the main ingredient.
The Savior is waiting to enter our hearts if we let him in, He will purify the eyes of our hearts to see Him clearly. When we keep focusing on Him we will do what is pleasing to Him. May God transformed our character so we might be like Him 🙏
Amen! A transformation that He only can give once he enters the chambers of our hearts.
Do I have an invitation to your kitchen? I would like to taste of its delicacies.
