Remember the childhood song that goes, “Watch your eyes, watch your eyes, what they see. Watch your eyes, watch your eyes, what they see. For there’s a Father up above, looking down in tender love. Watch your eyes, watch your eyes, what they see.”

Recently, I decided to treat a few kids to a fun theatre-style day- pop popcorn, and watch a fun, clean, top of the charts kids movie. I told them to choose the movie of their choice, so long as it is rated G, for general audience. After about ten minutes of “nope – not gonna happen”, “no way, are you kidding me?” “Way too grown!” and “try again”, they were getting discouraged and debated that their parents allow them to watch movies way more gothic, violent, and dark.  I began to feel like their movie Grinch. Needless to say, we found a “winner”.  Five minutes into the top voted animation movie of their time (Turning Red, PG), I came to the sad realization that cartoons and animations are probably more influential and satanic than the scary movies and thrillers which the kids had first nominated.

Some that were first nominated for watching were Hotel Transylvania, Sonic, Adamms Family, Frankeenweenie, Rise of the Guardians, to name a few. All these animations had to do with the friendly dead – literally!  I’m talking about a young boy who has the ability to talk to the dead in ParaNorman; the charismatic vampire hotel owner, with a charming bat turning to human kind of a daughter-from Hotel Transylvania, young Victor who manages to bring his dead dog back to life with a science experiment-from Frankeenweenie, the immortal guardians, like Santa Clause and the Easter Bunny, who are put in danger by a boogeyman named Pitch Black, or even 13-year-old girl Mei Mei, who starts magically turning into a giant red panda and transported to other realm in the movie Turning Red.

Never mind that I totally ruined the kids’ experience of watching Turning Red. I must have paused at every frame to point out the demonic and satanic elements to them. Poor babies.

But I’m genuinely concerned. Long ago, the appearance of satanic forces in animation was subtly injected in some of our favorite cartoons, but today, it has become blatant, yet our children are oblivious to the world of darkness that they are being plunged into. Have we become so desensitized that, over time, things that used to be offensive to Christians, unfortunately, are now accepting?

A recent study shows that 74% of all Disney animated movies had instances satanic and demonic elements.

Yea, I know you might think that I’m being overly dramatic, and that I’m infringing on your child’s entertainment. After all, these are the things that keep their attention while you get some work done. Today, I just want to encourage you to vet the animated shows that your child watches. What may seem harmless to you, is very harmful to your child’s psychological and emotional development. The devil is in the details, so watch through the eyes of Jesus.

Romans 12 verse 1 speaks volume; “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Cue music- “Be careful little eyes what you see; for there is a father up above, looking down in tender love. So be careful little eyes what you see.”

  1. Good morning and happy Tuesday. My dear, I wish every parent could get the opportunity to read your nugget. This right here highlights the danger parents put their children in as they work and do not pay attention. Children minds are sponges it absorbs. The eyes looks as things and forward it to the mind, then to the heart, then ultimately it becomes action. I’m sure you will agree with me that, what’s in the root comes out in the fruit. Be careful little eyes 👀.

  2. So true! There is a lot of violence and demonic influence in today’s games and movies.

  3. Well said my sister . The bible said lurks at the door the devil having them at this tender age is goes in at this age will come out later in life.

  4. Have you ever thought about adding a little bit more than just your articles?

I mean, what you say is valuable and everything. Nevertheless think about if you added some great graphics or videos to give your posts more,
“pop”! Your content is excellent but with images and video clips, this blog could
definitely be one of the most beneficial in its field.
    Great blog!
